Rapid urbanization and economic development across the world have brought significant challenges to water, soil, air, and public health—many of which were previously experienced only in
highly industrialized countries. Intensified human activities, diversified lifestyles, rising living standards, and the increasing global exchange of people and goods have not only amplified
existing environmental pressures, but also introduced new and urgent issues. These include water safety and security, agricultural soil protection, transboundary air pollution, renewable
energy development and utilization, microplastics contamination, emerging chemical pollutants such as PFAS, and microbial and viral agents of public health concern.
EPAM provides an international platform for sharing knowledge, fostering multilateral collaboration, and promoting discussion among policymakers, stakeholders, scientists, engineers, and
professionals. Through high-quality presentations and academic exchange, the conference highlights sustainable technologies, innovative processes, and effective management strategies for
addressing current and emerging environmental and public health issues in major urban regions.
Since its establishment in 2009, EPAM has been held annually in rotation among Japan, Korea, and the People’s Republic of China. For EPAM 2026, the conference will take place from
November 11 to 14, 2026, in Kyoto, Japan, one of the world’s most historic and beautiful cities.
Importantly, the conference name has now been officially updated from “Environmental and Public Health Issues in Asian Mega-cities” to “Environmental and Public Health Issues in All
Mega-cities.” This change reflects the growing global relevance of the conference and welcomes participation from researchers, professionals, and institutions from cities and regions around
the world.
EPAM 2026 will focus on innovative and strategic solutions to a wide range of environmental and public health challenges facing major cities today. Key topics include, but are not limited to,
micropollutants such as pharmaceuticals and PFAS, waste recycling and reuse, particulate matter, and other current and emerging risks to urban sustainability and public health.
The conference warmly welcomes discussions on the latest scientific findings, practical experiences, policy perspectives, and technological innovations that can contribute to building healthier,
safer, and more sustainable cities worldwide.
